Top Ten Reasons to Buy Windstone Grass Finished Buffalo
…. And to Stop Buying Factory Farmed Meat
We have found the following to be the primary considerations for people who have switched, either all or in part, to buffalo meat.
1. It Tastes Great
Nothing compares to the tenderness or taste of grass finished buffalo. It’s the best! Doesn’t leave the saturated fat residue in your mouth—or arteries.
2. No Antibiotics
Antibiotics are given to animals in factory-farms and feed lots as a way to control the problems brought on by the horrendous living conditions. In short, the animals are so crowded that they constantly ingest their own fecal matter, which in turn causes bacterial and parasitical infections.
3. No Steroids or Growth Hormones and Precocious Puberty.
The use of steroids and bovine growth hormone is commonplace in commercial beef operations as a way to speed up the rate of growth of the animal. These steroids eventually make it into the body of the human that eats this meat; much like a bird of prey would be poisoned if it ate a poisoned rat. Since this method of artificially stimulating the growth of beef is relatively new, we don’t know all of the effects it has on the humans that consume it. However, an expanding body of evidence is demonstrating that it causes early puberty, known as ‘precocious puberty’, in both young boys and girls, but especially in girls.
Amazingly, there are no laws that require producers, processors or retailers to place growth hormone use on the package label.
4. Balanced Omega Profile
When ruminants, such as cattle and buffalo, are given access to a diet of grasses and forbs, their fat is different from that of a factory farmed ruminant. The omega profile of a factory farmed animal produces a harmful fat, while the grass-fed fat is actually good for you, much like the omegas found in wild salmon.
5. Conjugated Linolenic Acid (CLA)
This is a cancer fighting fat that is made in the rumen of grass fed buffalo. CLA thrives in the systems of grass fed buffalo. However, CLA barely exists in the rumens of factory-farmed animals. The unnatural GMO grain diets fed to factory-farmed animals cause the rumen to be too acidic for CLA to propagate.
6. Humane Treatment of Animals
Animals that are raised in a stressful environment are subjected to cruel living conditions. Aside from this being inhumane, it causes increased stress, which causes increased cortisol levels. This in turn causes the meat to taste worse and turn to an unnatural color. Under state inspection, Windstone Buffalo humanely harvests our buffalo in the pasture, so they have a high quality of life and never have to be subjected to cruel and stressful practices.
7. No Animal Byproducts
As hard as it is to believe, factory farmed animals are fed animal byproducts. Animal byproducts are also linked to the mad cow outbreak. Its basically forced cannibalism.
8. Minimal Risk of E. coli
Grass-fed buffalo consuming a normal diet of grasses and forbs have a low-acid rumen system, which is very inhospitable environment for E. coli. On the other hand, factory-farmed animals are fed an unnatural diet of GMO grain products which causes high levels of acidity in the rumen an ideal environment for E. coli to thrive.
9. Knowing Where Your Food Comes From
With meat at the store, you have no idea where it came from or how it was raised. At Windstone Buffalo, we have complete transparency as to exactly where and how the animal was raised and harvested. In fact, we have an open invite to come and visit to see exactly where your food comes from. I challenge you to request a visit to the factory-farms where supermarket meat comes from.
10. It’s a Healthy, Nutrient Dense Food
