They were accepted to participate in the contest on January 30th, 2015 and were advanced to the next stage of the contest on February 13, 2015. This stage involved campaigning the public to vote for Windstone using social media platforms. The voting stage ran from February 13th – March 17th, 2015. Windstone successfully campaigned to earn 1,526 votes, which was enough to secure them a spot within the ranks of the Top 500 voted businesses in the US.
From the Top 500 competitors, Windstone was selected by the FedEx Judging Committee to advance to the national finals; the Top 100 businesses in the United States. To earn a position in the Top 100, Windstone underwent a rigorous judging battery including: compelling and engaging essays, creation of brand voice, utilization of visuals, cohesiveness, humor, engagement, uniqueness, ease of website navigation and ease of website product ordering. Extra credit was given to businesses for offering innovative products, having sustainable practices and having a positive impact on the community.
The final stage of the contest includes a 3000-character essay, which will be submitted by April 08, 2015. The essay will be available to read on Windstone’s website (www.wsbuffalo.com) after the close of the contest. Winners will be announced at the close of the contest on April 21st, 2015.
From the Top 100 there will be ten (10) Winners: one (1) Grand Prize Winner will receive a U.S. $25,000 Grant in the form of a check; one (1) Winner will receive a U.S. $10,000 Grant in the form of a check; eight (8) Winners will each receive a U.S. $5,000 Grant in the form of a check.
If Windstone is awarded a grant they plan to use the money to help with the building of fences, seeding new pastures, expanding fresh water systems, and educating customers through marketing efforts.
